Customers Line Up for Heavenly Pantheon Popsicles

July 6, 2010

A Charlottesville man is turning the routine popsicle into something special and unique. All popsicles are ice cold, and most of them taste good. Yet many people are lining up across Charlottesville to pay $3 for one of James Rucker's gourmet popsicles.

On the hottest days of summer, Rucker sells the coolest popsicles in town. Many customers say the frozen treats are melting the competition.

The business is called Pantheon Popsicles, and they've achieved an epic status in Charlottesville, worthy of a name that evokes ancient Rome.

"Sometimes they're always good, but sometimes you make a really good one, and everybody likes it, and they eat it and take a bite and go, 'Oh man,'" Rucker said. "Then you know you did something nice."

Each popsicle is made from freshly squeezed fruits locally grown in the Charlottesville area.

Rucker, an antiques dealer turned popsicle maker, has turned his passion into a business, but at the end of the day, Rucker never gets sick of the fruits of his labor.

And that's pretty cool.

Pantheon Popsicle's Facebook page says you can find the delicious treats at the Charlottesville Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, Meade Park on Wednesdays and Penn Park on Tuesdays.
