The Albemarle County School Board will allow the Carson Raymond Foundation to move forward with their plan for new dugouts at Woodbrook Elementary School.

The School Board voted 5-1 in favor of the dugout proposal Thursday night.

An upgrade to the baseball field at Woodbrook Elementary School would honor one of its students, Carson Raymond. Carson died in 2009 from complications of the swine flu.

His parents created the Carson Raymond Foundation in his honor. Its mission is to build and enhance fields in local communities, which includes the dugouts and bleachers at Woodbrook Elementary.

The original design of the dugout was completely enclosed. Some residents say, though, that they'd prefer a more open design because as is, the dugout would attract kids looking for trouble.

"These dugouts would only create additional places for people to hide," says Woodbrook Resident Susan Reed.

But John Raymond, Carson's father, tells CBS19 that he's sure once that once the dugouts are built, they will see how they benefit the school, the children and the people living nearby.

The field renovations do not cost taxpayers or the county a nickle. This is all payed for by donors who want to do something great for kids. Sometimes people do nice things and we should all be happy about that.

i thought the school board was anticipating a budget shortfall next year. Why waste MY money on athletic niceties. What next, luxury boxes for the school board. Maybe focus on academic needs!
