Dominion Virginia Power Aims To Reduce Energy Consumption

September 19, 2007

Dominion Virginia Power is aiming to reduce energy consumption by creating pilot programs to test energy efficiency and offering energy saving light bulbs at a reduced price.

The company is asking the Virginia State Corporation Commission for permission to create new pilot programs. The programs range from providing incentives for large nonresidential customers to reduce load during peak demand periods, to providing energy efficiency kits to 250 residential customers and 50 small commercial customers.

The utility also will offer 1.4 million energy-saving, compact fluorescent light bulbs at reduced prices through home improvement retailer Home Depot.

The efforts will begin in early 2008 and continue through 2009.
