Wild Wing Cafe owner Chad Ragland says his restaurant will be closed Tuesday due to the fire. They hope to re-open by Thursday.
Crews responded shortly after 6:30am to reports of flames and smoke visible on the second floor porch exterior of the restaurant. There was some minor extension of the fire into the building through the two doors. Officials say the fire and smoke triggered the sprinkler system inside the building, helping limit the spread of the fire.
Charlottesville Fire Chief Charles Werner says crews arrived on the scene within five minutes and extinguished the fire ten minutes later.
"I pretty much up looked up and said 'Is this really happening?' All I could still see some of the smoke coming off the top of the building, and I was awe," said Ragland.
No injuries were reported.
After an investigation into the fire, the Charlottesville Fire Department determined Monday afternoon there was no evidence of a set fire. However, the cause of the fire will still be listed as undetermined. The amount of damage has also yet to be determined.
