Holiday travel is on the rise, according to the latest predictions from AAA.
Between December 22 to January 1 roughly 93.3 million people will travel 50 miles or more. 84.4 million are expected to hit the road, while 5.6 million will get there by air. This represents an overall increase of 1.6 percent compared to last year.
The national average price at the pump is estimated to be between $3.20 and $3.40, though AAA does not believe gas prices have any impact on traveling.
AAA also doesn't think the current uncertainty with the "fiscal cliff" will stop many travelers form seeing friends and family for the holidays.
“The year-end holiday season remains the least volatile of all travel holidays as Americans will not let economic conditions or high gas prices dictate if they go home for the holidays or kick off the New Year with a vacation,” said AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet.
