Less than an hour after polls closed in Virginia, the Associated Press is projecting that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor will defeat Democratic challenger E. Wayne Powell in Virginia's 7th Congressional district.
If the projection holds true, Cantor will serve his 7th term in the House of Representatives. Cantor is the highest-ranking Jewish member of Congress in its history.
The Seventh District includes most of the northern and western areas of Richmond and portions of the Shenandoah Valley.
