James Baldi was in Charlottesville General District Court Friday morning.
Baldi paid a meals tax fee for the city, but he isn't a free man yet.
He is still being held at the Albemarle County Regional Jail without bond.
Baldi is accused of embezzling an undisclosed amount of money from WK Foods and Proffitt Management.
His hearing with the county for his embezzlement charges with be on April 1.
