Albemarle, Charlottesville Declare Local Emergency

The City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County have both declared a local emergency. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated Wednesday morning at 7:00 am at the Emergency Communications Center on Ivy Drive.

Emergency officials from Albemarle County, Charlottesville and UVA are monitoring the storm and conditions from the EOC. Officials say their main safety concerns are related to power outages, downed trees and driving conditions.

The local emergency does impact some roads and parking in the City of Charlottesville. Once a local emergency is declared, we can request additional support from the state.

Albemarle County Police Department, Charlottesville Police Department and UVA Police are all working on a modified response. Officers are responding to calls with injury or safety hazards, not minor calls. Please be patient as we work to respond to high priority calls.

No decision has been made at this point about establishing an emergency shelter. Due to the travel conditions, it is better for people to stay at home if possible.
