Albemarle Co. Board of Supervisors Discuss More Red Light Cameras

Aug. 6, 2014

To install red light cameras or not, that's the question the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors debated Wednesday morning.

The plan is add to the Photosafe program by installing additional red light cameras at the intersection on Greenbrier Drive and Route 29.

Supervisor Brad Sheffield said he would rather wait until after the Route 29 expansion project is complete, which is something Albemarle County Police agree with.

“One of the things that I do now want to do, and I'm a big advocate of this, I do not want to have an operation of a Photo-safe program when there is a lot of confusion on the highways and a lot of cones, a lot of lane changes and directions because of intense construction,” says Col. Steve Sellers. “That's not fair, and that's not something that I advocate.”

The board wants to hear from the public about installing cameras at Greenbrier Dr., and will hold a comment session next week.
