The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors needs to act quickly to set up a replacement for resigning Supervisor Christopher Dumler.
The board needs to petition a judge by June 20 to hold a special election for Dumler's seat. The special election will likely be held in November.
A temporary replacement for Dumler's seat must be chosen by July 20.
Candidates that are interested in serving on the Board of Supervisors until the special election better act quickly.
"If you were an independent candidate you would need to, by August 16th, file a declaration of candidacy," said Albemarle County Registrar Jake Washburne. "Gather 125 signatures from residents of the Scottsville Magisterial District and get them into our office."
It will be up to each party to decide how to choose their nominees. A candidate for each party must be selected by August 16.
