Albemarle County Fire and Rescue is getting the word about fire safety in the kitchen for Fire Prevention Week.
Officials have planned events to teach safety, includes fire safety games for kids and a live fire demonstration.
This year, the focus is on fire safety in the kitchen.
"Look around your kitchen," says Assistant Fire Marshal Shawn Maddox. "Do you have a fire extinguisher available? Are you cooking safely? Do your kids know to stay away from the stove? If you do have a fire, do you know how to react appropriately?"
On Saturday, firefighters will be at Fashion Square Mall. They will be offering fire extinguisher training, a live fire demonstration, and a moon bounce for kids.
