The Albemarle County Police Department is reminding drivers to buckle up and slow down during the busy Thanksgiving travel season.
To help save lives and keep roadways safe, Albemarle Co. police, along with other law enforcement agencies in Virginia, will be cracking down on seat belt violations. The annual Click It or Ticket campaign is underway and will last until Friday.
During the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday period, 249 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes nationwide. Fifty percent of those killed were not wearing seat belts.
The Click It or Ticket campaign's goal is to enforce the law in order to save more lives. Officials ask you to remember to buckle up, slow down and don't drive distracted.
In addition to Click It or Ticket, police will also be increasing patrols to combat drinking and driving.
