Dec. 23, 2013

The Albemarle County Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint on Rockfish Gap Turnpike on Friday, Dec. 20th.

The checkpoint began at 10:00 p.m. and lasted until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Officials say a total of 261 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Fourteen vehicles were pulled aside for further investigation by officers. Two people were given field sobriety tests, and were found to be sober. There were seven summonses issued for expired registration and one for expired state inspection.

Police say they are encouraged by the results of this checkpoint, and that they will have more DUI enforcement patrols out through the New Year’s Eve holiday.
