Albemarle Co. Police Conduct Red Light Violation Operation

May 28, 2014

On Tuesday, May 27th, officers with the Albemarle County Police Department conducted a red light violation operation on State Farm Blvd at the intersection of Richmond Road.

The operation was in response to complaints of red light runners and to lower the number of vehicle crashes in the area.

During a two hour time period, 25 vehicles were observed failing to stop for a red traffic signal before making a right turn from State Farm Blvd onto eastbound Richmond Road.

Officers issued a total of 32 summonses: 25 for failure to stop for a red traffic signal, six for failure to wear a seatbelt and one summons for driving suspended.

A message board was placed on State Farm Blvd by the police department the previous week with a traffic safety message. The message flashed "Right on Red, Stop First" and the message board will remain in the area all week.
