Police are investigating an overnight shooting.

The shooting happened in western Albemarle County, shortly before midnight on Monday, on Craigs Store Road.

Officials say the victim of the shooting was transported away from the scene by a private vehicle and was treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Twenty-one-year-old Marine reservist Jacob Boggs was arrested at the scene and is charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless handling of a firearm, one felony count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest and one felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer.

People that were there say the shooting was an accident. They say that the victim was in bed asleep and woke up when he realized he had been shot in the back.

Boggs is being held without bond and will have a preliminary hearing on June 12.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
