The Albemarle County Republican Committee released a statement Tuesday morning in regards to Chris Dumler's actions following his plea deal to a sexual battery charge. They believe his continued appearance on the Board of Supervisors is a distraction.
In recent meetings protesters and members of the community have expressed their opinions about Dumler and plan on continuing their protest until he resigns.
The Albemarle County Republican Committee waited until now to give their response on Dumler, because they didn't want to give the perception that this was a partisan issue.
The vice chairman, Steven Janes, spoke about their statement
“We believe he should step down. That it's not appropriate for him to remain on the board and I think the key operative word that I've heard others say is continued presence is becoming a huge distraction”
Janes said Dumler's continued presence on the Board of Supervisors is preventing the board from doing its job.
The committee is also very surprised that Dumler is remaining on the board, even after his own party and other democratic delegates asked him to step down.
Below is the full press release from the Albemarle County Republican Committee:
"March 5, 2013 Charlottesville Virginia—The Albemarle County Republican Committee joins many others in Albemarle County in condemning the behavior of Albemarle County Board of Supervisor, Chris Dumler and demanding he resign. Mr. Dumler pled guilty to a sexual battery charge which by any measure makes him serving on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors not only inappropriate but unconscionable. Furthermore, his continued presence on the Board has become a distraction that is hindering the Board’s work.
"The Albemarle County Republican Committee is committed to not making this troubling situation a political issue. This situation is about Mr. Dumler’s behavior and his inability to serve on the Board.
"The Albemarle County Republican Committee exists to assist in the election of Republican candidates from President on down to the County Board of Supervisors. Their headquarters is located at 455 Albemarle Square. The Committee is gearing up for the 2013 election cycle!!"
