Albemarle Co. Students Learn Leadership Skills

July 19, 2013

Area students are learning that there's more to being a leader than just being the boss.

The Second Annual Albemarle Leadership Academy is going on, teaching high school students skills they can use in college and beyond.

Organizers say anyone can lead, if they just learn the right skills.

"One of the things that stands out is, one of the students said it this morning. He said, 'I've learned so much about myself. Not just the other people here, but about myself.' And he said, 'to be a good leader, you know, I really need to know myself first,'" said Steve Foutz, a teacher at Albemarle High School.

At the end of the three-week class, they will have a graduation ceremony, where the students will give a presentation on the skills they're learned.
