Much like the city of Charlottesville, Albemarle County is seeing a spike in the number of applications for concealed handgun permits.
As of Tuesday, Charlottesville has approved 80 permits. The city is to surpass its 2012 total of 181 and nearly triple its 2011 total of 101.
New numbers from Albemarle County show that 255 people have been approved for concealed handgun permits so far in 2013. That's on track to be about 200 more than last year's total of 864, and almost double the 2011 total.
