The Albemarle County Supervisors met Wednesday to discuss a blueprint of a five-year financial plan to help Albemarle County prioritize funds.

"It provides a perspective when we make a decision one year, we want to make sure we know the impact over the next five years," said Albemarle County Budget Director, Lori Allshouse.

The supervisors mentioned two options during the meeting. The first option would keep the tax rate at 74.2 cents per $100 assessed. If this option were to take place, there would be minimal increases to schools and it would delay the opening of a new Crozet Library. Supervisors say this tax rate would provide tax relief for the county.

The second option would equalize the tax rate to 76.5 cents per $100 assessed. This would provide an additional $7.2 million to the school system, provide $5.4 million to community facilities and help open a new Crozet Library.

"I am really very strongly in support of the equalized rate as a way to begin to make some very small but incredibly important investments," said Albemarle County Supervisor, Ann Mallek.

The supervisors will not make a decision until they have a work session, which will be held in December.
