Albemarle in Need of Search and Rescue Volunteers
The Albemarle County Sheriff's Department is in need of more search and rescue volunteers. The department only has 100 volunteers, and Sheriff Chip Harding says they often find themselves shorthanded.

They help us in an emergency and now they're asking for out help.

Albemarle County Sheriff Chip Harding says his department is in need of more search and rescue volunteers. The department only has 100 volunteers, and they often find themselves shorthanded because only 25 percent are able to respond to a call.

Sheriff Harding is also looking for donations. He's raising money is hopes of restoring a Winnebago which would become a command vehicle.

"People are nice enough and kind enough to volunteer their time. It makes me feel bad that I cannot provide the equipment and facilities that the need," he said.

if you would like to offer your services, training is available on Feb. 12 from 12:45pm to 5pm at the Albemarle County Office Building on McIntire Road. You must be 18 years of age or older to be eligible.
