Thursday night, the Albemarle County School Board decided to send Superintendent Pam Moran's funding request to the Board of Supervisors.
Moran and her staff shrank the funding gap from $4.9 million to $3.7 million. School officials say that drop is due in part to receiving more state funding for the 2012/2013 fiscal year than originally anticipated.
The budget gap was first discussed last month. While more than 20 percent of the gap has been filled, the school board will likely have to ask the board of supervisors for money.
Officials say there will be two public hearings to discuss the funding request made by the school board.

Any future public hearings on the budget need to include COMPLETE copies of the current school budget. That way, the public would be able to see the waste, redundancy and potential fraud goes on in the budget and the front offices of the schools. Usually, the board just wants to cherry pick a couple things in the school budget to try and scare, or give the public false choices on how to lower it.
Is it true that Albemarle courts have millions of dollars in fines that are yet to be collected? Could this money, or even part of it, be used to cover the shortfall??
