The Albemarle County Sheriff's Department is forming what they call a "Sheriff's Posse".
Sheriff Chip Harding says the number of volunteers continues to grow. And instead of just having volunteers to help with search and rescue, the posse will help with everything from finger printing young children to working with seniors to help prevent crimes against the elderly.
Sheriff Harding hopes the posse will lead to the creation of even more programs.
"You think it's something that would be important to the community. We are all ears, we like to hear it, we've got so many volunteers that if it resonates with them it might be something we can do that's different. Something that we are not doing and we'd love to do," he explained.
Sheriff Harding hopes to have t-shirts and bumper stickers for members of the posse sometime soon. There will also be a golf round-up at Old Trail Golf Club on May 17 to raise money for the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office Foundation.
The foundation targets programs not funded by the county budget that rely on volunteers.
