The 'Bookmobile' hit the Downtown Mall on Saturday to kick off this year's Big Read, a program from the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library.
The Big Read invites the whole community to read the same book during the month of March to discuss together and attend events throughout.
Charlottesville Mayor Satyendra Huja and Albemarle Supervisor Ann Malleck presented a proclamation to celebrate reading.
The Big Read month will be filled with family friendly activities such as lectures, chess lessons, game night and the finale feast at Peter Chang's China Grill.
"We're getting the whole community to read the same book at the same time and this year's title is The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan so if you have a mother this book is for you," says Big Read Committee Chair Sarah Hamfeldt.
To join the 7th annual Big Read, head to the JMRL's website.
