Ash Lawn-Highland hosted its first field day, featuring some old-fashioned games for kids.
The day featured relay races, crafts, historic games and face painting.
This is a new idea for the historic site and organizers say it's a way to expand the James Monroe 5-k race, which took runners on a tour around the grounds of the president's home.
“It's spring, this area is beautiful, the countryside is beautiful, and the gardens are in bloom,” says Katie Falcone, events manager for Ash Lawn-Highland. “It's a wonderful place to be right now.”
“So this way, people can come out and just have a good time, enjoy the space.”
The adults could have some fun too. The field day also featured wine tasting and bluegrass music.
