One Killed in Orange County Shooting, Suspect Held

A property dispute led to a shooting in Orange County on Sunday afternoon that left one man dead, authorities say.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday on Carter Winkey Road of Route 33 near Gordonsville. When deputies arrived, they found 40-year-old Clyde Johnson III with multiple gunshot wounds in his car.

Despite efforts to revive Johnson, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the shooter is 63-year-old John Louis Johnson, who lives on Carter Winkey Road. He was taken into custody immediately and charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police say an argument over property led to the shooting.

Family members told the Newsplex the victim is the nephew of the suspect. Police have not identified a relationship.

John Louis Johnson is being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail.
