A very lucky local baby won a scholarship, just for being born.
Savont Washington was born at Martha Jefferson Hospital yesterday. His "5-29" birthday earned him a jump start on college.
Washington was one of 22 babies across the state awarded a college savings account worth $529 from the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan.
The criteria for winning: being born the closest to 5:29 p.m. on May 29 at a participating hospital in the Commonwealth.
Savont won by just 8 minutes. His mother didn't know about the contest, but she says that means his name, which means "scholar" was a good choice.
