Albemarle County firefighters battled a large fire Sunday night in Afton that destroyed a barn and a horse riding ring.
The fire broke out just after 6 p.m. in the 7400 block of Dick Woods Road in Afton. Firefighters arrived to find the barn and riding ring engulfed in flames.
No animals were inside the barn, and none were injured.
The blaze spawned a brush fire, so crews were working on defensive moves to prevent the spread. No other buildings were threatened by the flames, although a few sustained minor damage.
Firefighters say it's too early to determine a cause of the fire.
