The City of Charlottesville wants to build a trail along Meade Avenue in front of the Beer Run restaurant, but the owner says that would be bad for business.
Joshua Hunt says the new sidewalk would take out several parking spaces, valuable real estate considering parking spaces are at a premium already.
"We're hopeful that we can find a solution together with the city that doesn't put our shopping center and our business at rick by eliminating all of these parking spots while there is contruction going on both sides of us." says Joshua Hunt from Beer Run.
The city says the plan is to build a 3/4 mile-long multi-use bike/walk trail from the downtown mall to Meade Park. The sidewalk on the block in front of Beer Run will be turned into a 10 foot wide trail with a small grass buffer between the trail and traffic.
City Council will discuss the issues at a meeting on July 1.
