Big Names, Big Rallies, Frantic Finish to '12 Race

November 4, 2012

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Candidates are battling up to the final few hours of the most expensive, high-profile and fiercely contested political season ever in Virginia with presidential and Senate candidates zipping across the state at a dizzying pace.

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was in Newport News for an evening rally, and has two more scheduled for Monday, the campaign's final day. Vice President Joe Biden also has two appearances in Virginia on Monday.

Republicans were milling about their Virginia Beach campaign headquarters Sunday afternoon, about to embark on a final round of door-knocking. Senate candidate George Allen had just addressed them and left when Rick Santorum, who lost the GOP nomination to Mitt Romney, ambled up unannounced.

Santorum says he's goes where the race is tightest.

Allen's Democratic opponent, Tim Kaine, campaigned in northern Virginia on Sunday.
