A special bike race in Charlottesville puts cyclists to the test. The streets around the Ix complex on Sunday filled with bikes and caution tape, outlining the course for a special kind of race.
It was the Urban Cross Race for cyclocross riders. Instead of normal long-distance cycling races, this is a shorter course with different obstacles and terrain. But those prove to be a challenge.
"I convinced my parents I really wanted to do this, and they got me a bike and everything. When I started going and I was like, 'Wow, this is really hard.' But when you finish, the endorphins are going," said Parker Brookfield, a high-school cyclist.
Participants say they're glad they could get Sunday's race event in before Hurricane Sandy arrived.
