DOSWELL, Va. (AP) - More than 50 horses whose bloodlines trace back to Triple Crown great Secretariat and other Meadow Farm champions have gathered for a reunion.
Media outlets report horses and their trainers trotted around an outdoor ring at Meadow Event Park in Caroline County on Saturday as their bloodlines were read over a loudspeaker.
Wayne Mount was an exercise rider during the days of Secretariat, born at the farm in 1970. Mount says he rode Secretariat just once but says the excitement created by the horse was "amazing."
Secretariat, ridden by Ron Turcotte, won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes in 1973. Only two other horses have won the Triple Crown since.
The tribute was just part of the three-day Thoroughbred Heritage Horse Show, which ended Sunday.
