Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport has joined more than 130 airports nationwide that have full body-scanning technology.
The Transportation Security Administration installed the new security equipment at the airport about two weeks ago.
TSA spokesman Kawika Riley tells media outlets that the technology will improve security and the flow of passengers through checkpoints.
Riley says the scanning booth generates only a generic body image and doesn't show any details. Passengers can choose to undergo other screening methods.
Airport spokeswoman Jessica Wharton says passengers haven't voiced any concerns over the new equipment.
