At 2:00 Thursday afternoon, the Monticello district Boy Scouts helped ring the Liberty Bell replica in front of the Charlottesville Fire Department on Ridge Street.

They rang the bell 13 times, one ring for each of the original American colonies. This was followed by a speech by Bruce Laubach, a descendent of one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Nelson.

"The fire department did take the bell on the premise that they would use it as a curfew bell, but they never did, thank goodness because that brings a lot of nice memories to be able to have a replica that sounds exactly like the Liberty Bell that is in Philadelphia." says Laubach.

Laubach went to Philadelphia along with other the descendants of other Declaration signers to ring the bell in Philadelphia.
