Suspect in Custody Following Standoff at Rt. 29 Business

May 9, 2014

A nearly four hour standoff at an Albemarle County business has ended peacefully.

At around 6:30 Friday evening, Albemarle County police were called to Berkmar Drive for a call of shots fired. At around the same time, employees at Brown Collision Center on Rt. 29 say a man with a gun entered the business. Employees were able to get out of the building, and lock the suspect inside.

Police swarmed the building with weapons drawn and urged the man inside to come out.

At around 10 p.m., the SWAT team was seen going through the front door of the business. A few minutes later, police were seen leaving the building with a shirtless suspect in handcuffs.

Police say, despite the initial call for shots fired, there have found no evidence that anyone was shot.

The name of the suspect and his motive have not yet been released.
