The Carmike 6 movie theatre is showing its last movie Thursday night.
The staff isn't sure why the theatre is closing, saying since the theatre switched to showing older movies it has developed a good following.
Movie-goers who have gone to the Carmike for years say they will miss it. This is the third local theatre to close recently. Vinegar Hill and the Regal theater behind Kmart closed in 2013.
"I think it's sad to see another of the older theatres closing and shutting down, that there isn't business to support it. I mean, not just 'cause it's the dollar movie theatre in town, but, you know, I've come to the Carmike for a long time," said Johanna Montague.
"Yeah, coupled with the Vinegar Hill," added Will Montague. "The new theater's nice but we've gone from a number of theatres to just two now, I think, so it's kind of sad to see that."
The Montagues and their friend Martha Stockment came to the Carmike on Wednesday night to see "Elysium."
"I'm disappointed about it, too. I remember, you know, going here when I was younger and, so, I have memories here," said Stockment. "It's sad to see it close."
The Carmike 6's last movie plays Thursday night at 10 p.m.
