Thousands of University of Virginia alumni are expected to be back in town for Reunions Weekend, and many of them are bringing their kids along.

The annual kids carnival gave those young Hoos-in-training something to do on Saturday. There were inflatables, face painting, a DJ and a balloon artist at the Madison Bowl on Rugby Road.

Organizers said the carnival is a way to give kids something fun to do while their parents reminisce about their college days.

"The kids are really great troopers the entire weekend. They put up with the seminars and the dinners. And so we like to really throw them something where they can come have fun," Reunions assistant Jessica Gausmann said. "The parents can kind of sit back and let the kids just burn off some energy."

The carnival is sponsored by the university's alumni association.
