Dozens of people gathered Thursday morning to help celebrate their accomplishments at the Red Cross.
Organizers held a heroes’ breakfast this morning, thanking volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the community.
The Central Virginal Chapter has 400 volunteers who help with critical services during emergencies, both locally and across the country.
Despite having so many people on stand-by, there is always a need for volunteers.
“Volunteers are the backbone of the Red Cross and many organizations,” said Greg Hoagland, a Red Cross volunteer. “Because of their flexibility and be able to move around, they're time, the loyalty a volunteer puts forward they do it because they want to do it.”
In the past year, the Central Virginia Chapter of the Red Cross has provided food, shelter and comfort to 165 people in our area whose homes were damaged by fires.
