The United Way Thomas Jefferson Area is offering a free tax preparation program for some residents in Central Virginia.
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition will prepare you taxes for free, if you have an income of less than $52,000 per year.
There are sites in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Greene, Nelson, Fluvanna and Louisa Counties where you can go, but they do ask that you make an appointment.
Last year, they helped prepare more than 2,000 returns.
"What's great about the program is that it's an IRS sanctioned program, all of our volunteer preparers have been certified, so they undergo training and testing, and they have great knowledge of all of the credits,” Director of Community Initiatives Barbara Hutchinson said. “They can quickly go through a person's information to determine what credits they might be eligible for."
To make an appointment to have taxes done, call United Way at 434-972-1703 or go to their website.
