The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce is saying yes to a proposed gas tax.
It sent letters of support to the General Assembly on Thursday saying the Commonwealth has a responsibility towards growing and under-funded transportation needs.
Governor Bob McDonnell said he would endorse a fuel tax as a way to raise money without installing tolls on major state highways.
"Over the years we've had more motorists, more vehicles, more miles traveled," said Tim Hulbert with the Chamber of Commerce. "Yet we haven't kept pace with the need."
The Chamber calls the so-called gas tax an "imperfect solution", but say it's the most logical way of getting the necessary funds.
