Hundreds are resting their legs Saturday night after participating in the annual Charlottesville 10-Miler race.

Nearly 2,200 runners crossed the finish line after taking a long run, which started in the pouring rain.

This race benefits the Senior Center in Charlottesville, and organizers say the director ran the race and met his goal of finishing less than 90 minutes.

The average mile pace was 9.5 minutes.

This year's winner says it's his first time in Charlottesville and is glad to have had this good memory of his trip.

"My wife and I really wanted to come to Charlottesville for the first time but I also wanted to use this as a tune up before the Boston Marathon," said Greg Mariano of Alexandria. "So this is a really good confidence booster for Boston."

With so many ages and types of people running the 10 miles, some say it's a race that's both challenging and fun.
