Charlottesville Brewery Adding Heat to Their Beer

August 1, 2013

A local brewery is kicking off Virginia's Craft Beer Month with something a little different in its recipe.

The folks at the Champion Brewing Company, located right here in Charlottesville, are creating a habanero beer for those looking for something a little adventurous.

The owner, Hunter Smith, says it's partially inspired by the heat wave we had a couple of weeks ago.

"This is going to be roughly a seven percent American IPA, that's been dry-hopped with habanero peppers," says Smith. "So it's going to have a lot of complexity from the flavor of the pepper itself, but also some real heat from the capsaicin in the peppers."

They're only making a hundred gallons of this new brew, so you better get it while it's hot.
