People from all over the world couldn't let the day go by without wishing Charlottesville a happy 250th birthday. Charlottesville, Albemarle County and University of Virginia leaders attended the Grand 250 Gala at the John Paul Jones Arena Sunday night.
"There are very few communities in America which are as old as we are. We're not only old, but we are also a great community," said Charlottesville Mayor Satyendra Huja.
It's a sense of community that reaches across seas.
"We also have visitors with us. We have the mayor of our Italian sister city and the vice mayor of Besancon, our French sister city," said Charlottesville Vice Mayor Kristin Szakos. "We're just all celebrating together."
Beyond the food and enjoyment, there was one big performance on the minds of many people. Kool and the Gang was the headlining act of the night.
"It's going to be a lot of fun. A lot of people here, we'll have a lot of fun," said Del. David Toscano.
It's a party that’s 250 years in the making.
