The Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce getting a lesson in how to create more jobs on Wednesday.
Former Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Jim Cheng was the keynote speaker at the Leadership Charlottesville Alumni Association luncheon.
Cheng has also worked in information technology, and was most recently the president of a startup efficient energy firm.
He says that the way to get companies to bring jobs here is to build the sense of community.
"My department was in charge of creating jobs and opportunity, and a big part of that is community, having a great community to live in. It's quality of life. And organizations like the Chamber, like Leadership Charlottesville, are so important to ensure we have a great quality of life."
At the luncheon, Leadership Charlottesville also handed out its 2014 "Leaders' Leader Award."
