One church in Charlottesville is holding a back-to-school bash to help get area kids ready for their return to the classroom.
On Saturday afternoon, Mount Zion African Baptist Church will be giving out free haircuts and school supplies to kids at the pavilion on the Downtown Mall.
They're hoping to give away 1,500 backpacks, but they are still in need of more donations.
Organizers say the event is all about teaching the value of education.
"It lets them know that the community is concerned about their success in school, and wherever there is a community that shows concern and interest in a child, it's well-spent energy, it's a good effort," says Pastor Alvin Edwards. "It just says to them, we want you to be successful, because we value education."
The back-to-school bash is tomorrow, August 17, from 2 PM to 5 PM.
