City Council to Look at New Plans for City Market

July 18, 2013

Tonight at six the Charlottesville City Council will meet to discuss the future of the City Market.

Earlier this year council members reached out to a consultant to come up with a concept of a market district in conjunction with the existing market.

The City Market has been around since 1973, with 100 local vendors selling greens, produce, flowers and great food.

Currently the market takes place every Saturday through the months of April to October. It also takes place in the Water St. parking lot and some believe that the location should be improved.

"Folks want to see a permanent home and the concepts presented tomorrow night could lead in that direction depending on what direction council wants staff to move," says Charlottesville economic development director Chris Engel.

Tonight’s meeting will be held at City Space in downtown Charlottesville and is open to the public.
