Charlottesville Fire Dept. Says They're Ready for Winter Storm

Feb. 12, 2014

Charlottesville Fire Department personnel say they're prepared for this storm.

Fire officials say they have upped their staff in preparation for heavy snow, and they're also checking all their equipment.

They say they've inspected all their chain saws to make sure they can deal with any down trees.

Officials add that there's a way you can help them out while you're clearing your own driveway or sidewalk.

"If you do plow or push snow or shovel, try to keep those hydrants clear as far as for us,” says Charlottesville Fire Dept. Chief Rich Jones. “We're not asking everybody to go out and shovel hydrants, but if we can keep them clear, that does assist us as far as if we were to get a working fire, where we can find the water sources."

The fire department wants to remind residents to be patient. It may take them longer to make calls because of the weather, but they will be available if you need help.
