A check was given to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank on Thursday for the money taken in during Restaurant Week.
The week-long event raised $16,405 for the food bank. The money is especially critical leading up to summertime, as many students who depend on meals from school don't have that option. Over 65,000 meals can be provided with the donated money.
"The need isn't going down,” says CEO of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Michael McKee. “The economy might feel better for some of us. In reality we're providing more food for people every month then last year. About 118,000 people each and every month. That’s a really long line of people who need help. So this is coming at a critical time."
