Charlottesville Group Raising Support for Federal Climate Change

July 23, 2013

A local coalition is urging support for action on federal climate change.

The group gathered on the Downtown Mall on Tuesday morning to express support for President Obama's steps to address climate change.

The coalition is now asking for more support in the Commonwealth.

"In Virginia we've experienced some very intense weather over the past few years," says Sarah Frost with Environment Virginia. "Ninety-five percent of Virginians live in counties and independent cities affected by federally declared, weather-related disasters over the past 6 years. So it is a very real and present concern."

Last month, President Obama announced the nation's first-ever limits on carbon pollution, infrastructure improvements and ways to deal with climate change.
