RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Charlottesville native Billy Campbell says re-enacting the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln for a television movie was daunting.
Campbell spoke to media outlets leading up to Sunday night's airing of "Killing Lincoln" on the National Geographic Channel.
Campbell plays the president. He says filming the scene in which John Wilkes Booth shoots Lincoln in the head at the Ford Theater in Washington in April 1865 was "unsettling."
The film is airing one week before the Academy Awards. Daniel Day-Lewis is nominated for an Oscar for his own portrayal of the 16th president in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln." Campbell says he hasn't seen that film.
Scenes for both movies were done in some of the same places in the Richmond area.
