Charlottesville Police are on the hunt for one of their own -- a police K9 dog that fled from its handler on Saturday night.

Charlottesville Police say the K9, Leo, fled from its handler around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Burnley Road and Burnley Station Road in Orange County, near the northern portion of Albemarle County.

The dog is a 5-year-old Belgian Malnois breed, described as reddish tan and black in color. Leo is not considered dangerous.

Police ask that anyone who encounters the dog not to approach or attempt to take the dog into custody. Instead, police ask anyone who finds Leo to contact the department at 434-970-3280.

All area law enforcement agencies have also been notified of the missing dog.
